Dr. Mukherjee's interests include ethical dilemmas posed by neurological impairments, the cultural contexts of medical decisions, and the impact of emotionally demanding cases on clinical staff. She is a licensed clinical psychologist and Director of the Donnelley Ethics Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Her scholarship and practice are informed by over 22 years of clinical experience, working in 8 hospital settings (in Buffalo; Boston; Urbana; Chicago; Paris, France; and Kolkata, India). After receiving her Bachelor's degree from Cornell University and her Masters and Doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Mukherjee completed two years of postdoctoral fellowship training at the University of Chicago MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics. She was then invited to be a faculty member for the inaugural year of the Centre D'ethique Clinique at Cochin Teaching Hospital in Paris, France. She joined RIC in 2004 as a Clinical Educator in the ethics program, became Associate Director in 2007, and Director in 2009. In 2006-07, Dr. Mukherjee was a Fulbright Scholar in Kolkata, India researching long-term adjustment to Traumatic Brain Injury. At RIC, she is a clinical ethics consultant, chair of the Hospital Ethics Committee and on a steering committee for improving the Patient Experience.
