| Associate Professor of Medicine Director, Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling, Center for Genetic Medicine Ethical issues in genetics, impact of genetics on perceptions of disability, integrating genetics into internal medical practice Kelly Ormond received a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and psychology from Bucknell University, a Master of Science degree in genetic counseling from the Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling at Northwestern University in 1994, and a post-doctoral fellowship certificate in Clinical Medical Ethics at the MacLean Center of the University of Chicgo in 2001. She was certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) in 1996. After graduation, Kelly spent several years working in prenatal, pediatric, and adult genetics at the University of Vermont, as well as coordinating the Vermont Pregnancy Risk Information Service (a teratogen service) and the Marfan syndrome clinic. Kelly returned to Northwestern University in 1997 to coordinate the Illinois Teratogen Information Service, which included supervising graduate students during their rotation in teratology. She was appointed Assistant Director of the graduate program in 1998 and Director in 1999. In recent years, Kelly has been involved in prenatal genetic counseling, coordinated a population-based carrier screening program for cystic fibrosis and diseases prevalent among Ashkenazi Jews, and most recently provided genetic counseling for patients with a family history of Huntingon disease, Alzheimer disease and other adult-onset disorders. Kelly is also active in the National Society of Genetic Counselors, including co-chairing the year 2000 Annual Education Conference and on the NSGC Board of Directors as Education Chair (2001-2003), and as President (2004-2005). She is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics, the American College of Medical Genetics, the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities, and the Organization of Teratogen Information Services, and is an active volunteer for the March of Dimes. As Director of the Graduate Program, Kelly is responsible for teaching material in many facets of the program, overall curriculum development, and working with students on a variety of professional issues.
